Congratulations to Alfie Hewett – World Junior Masters Champion - 30th Jan 2012

Alfie, who is sponsored and supported by Premier Sport is currently 3rd in the world junior rankings  and beat top seed and world number 2 Augustin Ledesma (Argentina) by two sets to one in the singles final on Sunday. Ledesma (who will be 18 in March and virtually four years older than Alfie) is also ranked 85 places higher than Alfie in the world senior rankings.

Ledesma won the first set 6-2 but Alfie came back to win the second 6-2. The final set saw a remarkable comeback from Alfie – he was 5-2 down but forced a tie break only to find himself trailing again when Ledesma had two match points at 6-4.

Alfie won five of the last six points to take an amazing win and become only the second Brit to win the title.

Earlier, on Saturday, Alfie had paired up with Ledesma to win the doubles title. They beat the Dutch pair of Rody de Bie and Jeroen Staman in the final.

Info: Alfie won all his three group games to qualify for the semi finals beating Jeroen Staman (NED), Ryan Nelson (USA) and Rody de Bie (NED). In the semi final he beat Carlos Anker (NED).

Premier Sport  continue to support  Alfie as he takes on the World’s best in this competitive sport.

Further information on Alfie, including his medical history, can be found on www.alfietennis.co.uk.
