CAREER TURNAROUND BRINGS SPORTING CHANCE TO LEICESTERSHIRE YOUNGSTERS - 17th Oct 2011
Steve Quenby, 41, has taken on his own business under the wing of the UK’s biggest coaching company, Premier Sport.
Steve is already delivering sport in seven schools in North Leicestershire and is planning three half term holiday camps, as well as offering free sports taster sessions to schools across the region.
Premier Sport is dedicated to developing innovative sports coaching which will help children to live a healthy, fit life, and successfully delivers coaching to more than 150,000 children every week.
The company is backed by big-named sporting ambassadors including rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio, Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew and former rugby league champion Paul Sculthorpe.
Steve, who lives in West Walton, Norfolk, will be working across the Loughbourgh, Coalville, Ibstock, Markfield, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Shepshed and Castle Donington areas, offering PE coaching both in and out of school hours as well as holiday camps, breakfast, lunch and after school clubs with his team of coaches, in up to 21 different sports under the Premier Sport umbrella.
Steve, who worked in the NHS Blood and Transplant department for 13 years, made the move to set up his own business with Premier after a traumatic health scare, followed by redundancy due to NHS cutbacks. He has already undergone intensive coaching training in athletics, basketball, cricket, gymnastics and racket sports.
“After suffering a brain haemorrhage in 2010 and then being made redundant this year, I decided on a complete change of career. Having enjoyed coaching football to many different age groups I decided to look into making coaching a full time job,” he said.
“My 10-year-old son Tom loves attending his Premier Sport clubs at his school in Norfolk and that is how I first heard about Premier Sport. When investigating the possibilities I came across Premier Sport franchise opportunities and took the plunge!
“I passionately believe that sport is vital for children’s health and well- being, as well as giving them so many other valuable life skills. Sport in school helps with developing those skills.”
Steve, a keen footballer himself, also enjoys rugby, cricket and motorsports, and has raced saloon and sports cars at circuits around the UK since 1994. Also a qualified FA football coach, he coaches various teams of youngsters.
