The Golden Mile is a safe, simple and measurable physical activity initiative available to all age groups operating in a number of different sectors; these include Nurseries, Schools, Corporates, Community Groups, Further Education institutes and Higher Education Institutes.
By introducing ‘The Golden Mile’ into the Busy Bees nurseries, will bring the children an interactive fitness challenge that they can really get involved in. The Golden Mile has been developed with child development and stimulation in mind, and encourages children aged two and over to not only complete their miles, but think about how they can be carried out, whether it be running, skipping, or jumping. The initiative also encourages parents to get involved outside of Nursery hours to help achieve the Childs Golden Miles.
In the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics the youngsters will take part in this exciting and fun initiative, while raising funds for The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust. Every child attending a Busy Bees nursery will be challenged to complete eight miles of physical activity over the next 12 months.
The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust creates life chances for young people. Every young person the charity works with has the chance to work with, and be inspired by Olympic, Paralympic World and Commonwealth Champions. Through mentoring and support, they encourage young people to reach their potential and be the best they can be.
The Busy Bees Golden Mile can also help achieve the New UK physical activity guidelines launched by the Chief Medical Officer that says that Under-fives should do the following;
- 180 minutes – (three hours) – each day, once a child is able to walk
- For non-walkers physical activity should be encouraged from birth particularly through floor-based play and water-based activities in safe environments.
