Sporting legends ‘club together’ for Dame Kelly’s Charity Golf Day! - 13th May 2011
A whole host of sports stars joined the Dame Kelly on the historic ‘Heritage Course’ at the sought after London Golf Club.
Among the stars who hit the fairways were Olympic Rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave, former Olympic record holder Steve Backley, retired footballer and sports journalist Mark Bright, English Rugby Union player and British and Irish Lion Rory Underwood, Olympic Swimmer Mark Foster, and former Scotland and British and Irish Lions fly half Craig Chalmers, who played with the Premier Sport team.
The event, sponsored by K2 Performance Systems, commenced with a ‘shot gun’ start and teams of four, each including a sporting celebrity, competed over the 18-hole championship course. The day concluded with a dinner and charity auction, and guests were able to bid for some fantastic prizes, including a ‘Jaguar Track Day’ for 2 people in the company of Steve Backley.
The Golf Day raised funds for DKH Legacy Trust charity projects, including the ‘Backing Talent’ project, which sees world class athletes mentor and support aspiring athletes. Lewis Gray, a table tennis player from Tunbridge Wells, was in the programme that took place last November.
Dame Kelly Holmes, Double Olympic champion and Chair of the DKH Legacy Trust, said:
“I am really proud to have hosted Premier Sport at our second charity golf day at London Golf Club in my home county of Kent and that K2 Performance Systems chose to support our event. Premier Sport seemed to have a great time on the day and most importantly, it helped us to raise the money we need to support more young people. I am really chuffed that so many world class sport stars gave up their time to help us!
“Congratulations must also go to Rob Hayne, who won prize kindly donated by Mizuno Golf for the recording the longest drive on the day.”
Keith Hatter, CEO of K2 Performance Systems said:
"The 2011 DKH Legacy Trust Golf Day was a great event - superbly organised, great fun and importantly, raised some vital new funds so that the Trust and continue to transform the lives of the young people it works with. Everybody at K2 Performance Systems came away inspired to continue our commitment to the Trust and each of our customers told us how much they enjoyed the day. We're looking forward to making the 2012 Golf Day even bigger and better!"
