Pioneering Project Ensures Every Child Matters to Fulfil Core Offer - 1st Oct 2010
The five week summer project which took place at the SPARCS building in St Peters, Swinton, offered activities including football, rugby, tennis, athletics, dodgeball, basketball, cricket and rounders to children from 11 different primary schools in the area.
Feedback from parents of almost 50 children who attended deemed the event ‘100 per cent’ successful in 10 key areas.
The scheme covered the five key areas of Every Child Matters and the four key areas of Extended Services in helping schools to fulfil their Core Offer – while bringing together the communities of 11 primary schools.
Premier Sport area coordinator, Brendan Blood, said: “Every child had a fun time on the camp, trying new sports, meeting new children and coaches, all done in a safe environment.
“Children integrated well with children from other schools who they hadn’t known previously. Premier Sport staff work with all the children respectively in their schools and it they seemed more comfortable attending the event with familiar faces working there.
“Once at the event children integrated with the support of Premier Sport staff and all made new friends. All children from all backgrounds mingled well. At each camp the coaching staff would set a group challenge of talking to someone that they do not know for 30 seconds, asking questions and introducing themselves. This was a huge success.”
Premier has now taken on a 12 month contract to continue the project to use the centre as a holiday camp during each holiday of the school year for children across the Salford area.
